I'm really diggin' Kimya Dawson's new CD, "Remember That I Love You".  It's definitely not trad music and definitely doesn't fit into dreamboat's format, but it's got the dreamboat spirit!!  I have always been a big fan of Kimya's, and this new album definitely doesn't disappoint.

Also, someone else who isn't dreamboat material but who I just love is Peter Rowan.  Besides the fact that he is an amazing, legendary musician, he also seems like such a good guy with great hair ;)  I have always loved the "vibe" at his shows -- so comfortable, and so music-centric.  Something else I love is how woman-friendly he is.  He's been touring with two women who are mainly instrumentalists -- Bryn Davis on upright bass, and Sharon Gilchrist on mando.  And Tony Rice, who's also a legend, on guitar.  Bryn and Sharon are outstanding enough musicians to perform with these two legends, but they are also young, women and not as well-known.  So I think it's so great that when they tour with Peter Rowan, they get so much of the spotlight, and everyone can tell how big a part of the music they are.  Also, how often do you see women instrumentalists backing up the male singer?   I just love that too.

In further disjointed commentary, I am reading a great book called "Finding Her Voice -- Women in Country Music 1800-2000".  It's a very well-written, well-researched history of women in all of the roots and branches of country music, and I'm learning a lot.  I'll be sure to share the knowledge as I soak it in!

And finally, there's a new acoustic music show on WRUW -- the Sunday Acoustic show, on Sunday mornings 6-8 am.  Different programmers rotate into that slot each week, to bring you a great variety of acoustic programming.  I plan to do at least a few of those slots this summer (oh, sleep, where did you go?), so be sure you at least download if you don't tune in live.  I'll let you know more about it soon!

Have a nice Memorial Day weekend, and take yr radio with you wherever you go!!

I finally put up my playlist this week.  Please don't let me get so lazy again!!

I'm going to Lake Michigan for Memorial Day Weekend.  Some fun in the sun in MUCH needed, but unfortunately it means I won't be doing the show on Monday.  But Cuzin Dave is, so if you are crazy enough to get up at between 7 and 9 am on a holiday, you will want to make sure you tune in.  Or for the sane ones, download later -- he will do a great show!!

Today was my last "Salut, Romania" show.  It was really fun while it lasted!!  I hope to do the show again in the near future.  I actually started school again this past semester (I took three years off after graduating from Case, and now I'm thinkin' grad school is the way to go!!)  School keeps ya pretty busy, especially when you also have a full-time job!

Anyway, back to dreamboat -- the new summer schedule starts on Sunday.  I'm REALLY hoping for Monday morning again, as I figure most of you are too!!  I'll be keeping my fingers crossed this weekend.

Speaking of the weekend, I'm heading off to Cinci for the Appalachian Festival tomorrow.  I'm really looking forward to it -- and will have lots of stories on Monday.  I will also be a very tired girl on Monday, but here's to hoping I'll still be doing a show then!!!!!!!!!

As some of you may know, this winter/spring I had a radio side-project:  my Romanian music show on Thursday mornings, under my alter-ego of DJ Bucharest.  It's been a blast to do the show (and still is), but I think this summer it is time for a break.  I just don't have enough music right now to keep the show going and make it fresh and interesting.  BUT, I am working hard on getting more music and hope to do the show again in the fall.  Until then, I'll miss my early morning Romanian fun.

There are still a few shows left, though.  Be sure you tune in while you still can!!

Expect them by the end of this week or early next week.

I'll be going to see the Stairwell Sisters  in Lansing, MI this coming weekend, and will be visiting the world-famous Elderly Instruments!.  I'll sure have lots of stories to tell next week, so be sure you stay tuned!!

Sun, April 9th, 7:30 pm -- Adrienne Young and Little Sadie -- Beachland Tavern  I'LL BE GIVING AWAY TICKETS FOR THIS SHOW NEXT WEEK.  BE SURE YOU TUNE IN!!

Update on Laura Boosinger phone interview:  the interview was postponed until April.  The main reason for this is that I want to be able to spend a lot of time and energy making this interview really special, since it is such a great honor to have Laura on the show.  And right now, until April 9th, I pretty much have a one-track mind: TELETHON.  I am working very hard to put together a great show on April 3rd, and to help the station in its preparation for the most important and exciting week of the year!!  In the meantime, this year's dreamboat zine will feature an interview with Laura Boosinger that was done especially for the zine -- so be sure you pick that up during telethon!

Check out the brand new "Telethon '06" section of this website.  I just finished updating it with details about the premiums you will be able to get with your donation, so you have one more reason to get excited about calling dreamboat radio on April 3, 2006, and showing your support.  Rembember that we are a non-profit, non-corporate, all-volunteer community radio station, and we could not be as great as we are without you!

I love, love, love rainy days like today.  When it really comes down hard, the world feels so beautiful and so pure.  I love how the rain makes everything look so alive and it feels cozy just to be inside and look out the window.  Days like today are the heart and soul of dreamboat radio.  When I got to work this morning after doing the show, I just sat in the parking lot and listened to the show's archive in my car for a while.  I watched the raindrops hit a puddle in the pavement and reveled in the perfect circles that the raindrops made in the water.  The music just sounded even more beautiful than usual.  I really didn't want to get out of the car and go sit in a windowless office for the next eight hours.  I am so lucky I've got this music in my life -- it makes me so happy.  I hope you all enjoyed the show as much as I did.  And if you need one more reason to listen to the archive, today I did a special set on the guitar style of Maybelle Carter, taken from a recording of a workshop she presented at the 1963 Newport Folk Festival.

Keep checking back here often.  I'm doing lots of updates to the website this week.  You won't want to miss them as they come along!!

Upcoming Cleveland show to check out:

GET READY ....  for the most exciting month in dreamboat history!!  That's right, there's some really amazing stuff cookin' for the next few weeks, so be sure you stay tuned.  This Monday I will feature a special set on Maybelle Carter's guitar style.  Next week, I will be recording an interview with one of today's brightest talents in old-time music, Laura Boosinger, which will be featured on an upcoming edition of dreamboat.  And I am working hard on this year's dreamboat zine, which you will definitely want to get your hands on this year (check out the telethon section of this site to see how).
